Prices: (food not included)

2 single rooms: 350 soles (about U$ 130) per month,
1 twin room: 300 soles per person (about U$ 113) per month

This house is owned by a very friendly middle class family from the northern highlands of Peru who have lived in Huanchaco for more than 10 years. The family includes the father, Jorge (who works in the municipality of Huanchaco), the mother, Gabi (a housewife), their daughter (who is 33 and currently lives in Lima), their son (he is in his early 20's and has recently returned from the USA), granny, Sebastian (dog) and Pia (cat).

This particular home stay is a great opportunity to get to know a real Peruvian family whilst also having the little luxuries you might be used to at home (hot water, internet etc). It would also be ideal for volunteers wanting to practice and improve their Spanish as the mother is keen to converse and get to know the volunteers, however if your Spanish is not so good, the father and son both speak English.

They do not have many rules regarding volunteers so long as there is mutual respect, good communication and use of common sense things flow pretty smoothly. Overnight guests are not allowed in the house, however.

The house is in a central location, within walking distance to all the projects in Huanchaco and next door to the Library project. 1 block from the house is the beach front where public transport passes regularly and you can find two ATMs and an internet café.

The house is very spacious and airy with large outside areas complete with hammocks. In the lounge area there is a stereo, tv and dvd player. You will also have access to a washing machine, a computer with internet connection, telephone, hot shower and kitchen facilities (food not included). The family has a dog that is usually kept in the garden and also a small kitten. Be aware that granny can sometimes be a little overfriendly when greeting people!

The family are offering two single bedrooms for female volunteers only.

"The house is great! Family is really nice, hot water (most of the time), comfortable, big rooms, and good bargain. Abuelita is sometimes difficult to live with—sometimes takes your food from the kitchen or begs you to stay with her at the house, but overall, it was fine!"
