If you are interested in volunteering with us, first please browse through our projects for detailed descriptions of the volunteer positions that we offer. Please also have a careful look at minimum volunteer contribution page on our website before you apply, and make sure you are comfortable with the cost. Please also read our code of conduct, as it's very important that you know how you are expected to behave while you are volunteering for Otra Cosa Network..
Volunteering in Peru is very rewarding, but things do not always work as well as they do in your home country. Water and electricity supplies can sometimes be unreliable, as can access to the internet, and you may not always be able to find familiar foodstuffs in the shops and supermarkets. You will also most likely come across quite a few cultural differences and you should be aware that many people in Peru cannot speak any English. Similarly the duties required of you when you arrive at your chosen project may not always be as expected, and may vary from day to day as needed by the project. It is best to arrive with an open mind, adaptability, flexibility and commitment, as this will enable you to get the most out of your time here and be of most benefit to the projects we support. In return we will look after you and try to deliver what we offer, but in Peru structure and planning are understood differently and as such, things do not always go according to plan. Whatever you end up doing while here will be of great value to the projects and will be greatly appreciated by the community and by Otra Cosa Network.
Once you have found the project(s) of that most interest you, fill out our application form, and send us your CV either in English or in Spanish (note that some projects require their prospective volunteers to send their CV and motivation letter in Spanish). Please complete all the information requested below. This will help us to review your application and get back to you within 2 working days.
Once your project has been confirmed, we will send you a travel information sheet and your volunteer contract, which you need to print out, sign, scan and send back to us via email in order to finalise the placement procedure. We cannot guarantee your placement until you have returned the signed contract AND submitted your payment of at least the 20% deposit of the volunteer contribution. Please also send us your arrival details in Trujillo once you have purchased your plane tickets, so that we can arrange a pick-up service to bring you your accommodation upon arrival.
We also arrange accommodation for our volunteers. If you would like OCN to organise your accommodation, let us know your preferred option after reviewing the various options on our accommodation options page. To be fair and transparent to all of our volunteers we offer accommodation on a first come first serve basis once the contract has been signed and we have received at least the 20% deposit of the volunteer contribution.
We look forward to hearing from you.
