Prices: (food not included)

2 sharing a twin room: 12 soles per night, per person (about US$ 3)
1 single room: 15 soles per person (about US$ 4) per night for single occupancy

This house is owned by a very friendly middle class couple from the northern highlands of Peru who have lived in Huanchaco for more than 10 years. The couple, Jorge (who works in the municipality of Huanchaco) and Gabi (a housewife) share their home with their two cats Pia and Luna.

This particular home stay is a great opportunity to get to know a real Peruvian family whilst also having the little luxuries you may be used to at home (hot water, internet etc.). It is ideal for volunteers wanting to practice and improve their Spanish as both Gabi and Jorge are extremely welcoming and keen to converse with and get to know the volunteers they host. However, if your Spanish is not so good, Jorge also speaks English.

They do not have many rules regarding volunteers so long as there is mutual respect and good communication. They want volunteers to feel as if they were in their own home. Overnight guests are not allowed in the house however.

The house itself is in a central location, within walking distance to all projects in Huanchaco and next door to the library. The house is also situated one block back from the beach front where public transport passes and you can find two ATM’s an internet café and a variety of restaurants. It is also conveniently located for all restaurants and bars on Los Pinos, one of the main streets in Huanchaco.

The house is very spacious and airy with large outside areas complete with hammocks. In the lounge area there is a stereo, TV and DVD player which volunteers are welcome to use. There is also access to a washing machine, a computer with internet connection, wi-fi, telephone, a hot shower and kitchen facilities.

The family are offering 2 single bedrooms and one twin bedroom for female volunteers only.

"The house is great! Family is really nice, hot water (most of the time), comfortable, big rooms, and good bargain. Abuelita is sometimes difficult to live with—sometimes takes your food from the kitchen or begs you to stay with her at the house, but overall, it was fine!"
