HELP ENGLISH

HELP ENGLISH

Currently we hold English classes for local children in the afternoons. These comprise of improving their listening, reading, comprehension, and writing skills. Our volunteers plan lessons suited to all their abilities, which means we can benefit them directly and in the most effective way possible. Further to this, we have a strong focus on enabling them through English, and use play as a way of learning to maximise the absorption of the language. This has seen a great success so far and the kids love coming to our classes!

It is important to us that the children enjoy their lessons with us, as well as gain a higher level of English. Our approach is more hands-on and detailled than they would recieve elsewhere, and we are incredibly proud of the effort our volunteers put in as it truly does make a difference. The personalised approach we offer allows them to be supported and encouraged through their learning, and they can make faster progress with us. Nothing brings a wider smile to our volunteers´ faces than seeing one of our children get the hang of English and show off their skills to us!
Alongside our thriving English classes held by Otra Cosa, we have partnerships with local schools to deliver classes within their school curriculum. We are in the process of re-starting a multitude of partnerships, as the pandemic has halted a lot of progress in many areas. Currently, we deliver daily English classes at a local private school in Huanchaco, and the children there are eager to learn and enjoy the visits from our volunteers each morning. We have greatly enjoyed seeing them develop throughout the year, and they have amiable relationships with all our volunteers and look forward to their classes.
Previously we have held classes in mutliple schools in the local area, and we look forward to being able to bring back these partnerships, allowing more children to access English lessons and work with us in their studies. The importance of knowing English in a town that sees a high level of tourism is imperative to allowing the children to progress and mobilise themselves in their communities.

Please read the position description below to find out more about what it would be like to work with us on these exciting projects!
