

DESCRIPTION
The HELP Swim Volunteer Swim Instructor delivers learn-to-swim / drowning prevention lessons to children ages 3 - 16 in a safe, respectful, fun manner. The Swim Instructor works closely with the HELP Swim Volunteer Environmental Educator to deliver the comprehensive HELP Swim drowning prevention / water stewardship programme. The Swim Instructor and Environmental Educator report to the Country Manager.
THIS POSITION INCLUDES TASKS SUCH AS
Deliver learn-to-swim / drowning prevention lessons in accordance with the SwimTayka curriculum and the agreed-to local schedule of lessons. Where appropriate or needed:
○ Develop lesson plans
○ Develop a schedule of classes
○ Develop a transportation plan to and from swimming lesson locations
● Assess the swimming abilities of youth participants and group them according to age and ability, maintaining a 1 : 5 - 8 ratio of instructors to swimmers
● Administer the learn-to-swim / drowning prevention programme
○ Note the names, ages, parental information and contact information for all participants
○ Obtain parental consent for each participant
○ Monitor daily registers (lesson attendance)
○ Keep notes from daily and weekly lessons
○ Be responsible for the use and maintenance of teaching aids and equipment
○ Maintain daily communication with the Program Coordinator and fellow volunteers. Participate in regularly scheduled volunteer meetings.
● Demonstrate teamwork and a collaborative spirit with fellow volunteers in a safe, respectful, and fun manner.
● Demonstrate respect, courtesy and commitment to safety in the local community
● Familiarize yourself with the SwimTayka Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
● Wear the SwimTayka t-shirt and/or swim cap during lesson times

REQUIREMENTS
- Age 18+ on arrival.
- Current background check from your home country.
- You currently carry or will have first aid and/or CPR certification.
- You possess the appropriate certification and/or experience to serve as a youth swim instructor.
- Time commitment: The programme begins on the 9th of January 2023, but we recommend that you arrive a week before to get to know the team and the project before lessons start. The programme typically lasts 2 - 3 months.
